Leon and a group of friends decided to take advantage of the recent short spell of fine weather and made the trip to Lough Lene in County Meath for a spot of Trout fishing. A venue the lads have fished on many occasions with good results recorded in the past, today would prove to be a special day.
Leon was using two rods baited with worms, one cast out far and the other a telescopic travel rod that is stored in the boot of the car was lobbed out a short distance away. With all baits in the water it was time for a bit of food and it was then the telescopic rod went for a swim being violently pulled into the lake!
With everyone thinking the rod was gone and probably a prized fish too, Leon used another rod casting in all directions in the hope that he could fish his rod out of the water. After a short while it was clear the rod maybe gone, Leon decided to reel the rod in that was cast out far to change the bait only to realize that he has hooked into something on the retrieve. This by chance was his telescopic rod with a nice 6.5 pound Rainbow Trout on the other end of the line. After a brief fight the fish was landed and telescopic rod back on dry land to fish another day!
The lads continued fishing for the rest of the day with more trout being caught, the biggest being 5 pound and 6 pound. A great day had by all, the lads are now just waiting for the weather to clear so they can do it all again!
Lough Lene is located near Collinstown in County Meath not far from the famous Lough Derravarragh and has a good stock of Pike, course fish and a healthy stock of Trout.
